We supply three types of bandsaw machines: metal cutting bandsaws (175mm to 600mm round cutting capacity), pivot type manual bandsaws, and pivot type semi-automatic bandsaws. We also supply a semi hydraulic hacksaw machine. Four configurations in total, covering light cutting to heavy-section fabrication work.
The metal cutting bandsaw (SM 175 to SM 600) covers 175mm to 600mm round and up to 425 x 425mm square, and SM 225 to SM 475 can also make swing (angle) cuts. The pivot type bandsaws (SM 708, SM 912, SM 1316 and the SMSA semi-automatic versions) cover 175mm to 325mm round; the manual models have hydraulic feed control, and the semi-automatic models add a hydraulic vice and PLC control for repeat cutting. Choose the metal cutting bandsaw for larger sections; a pivot type for smaller sections and repeat work.
Bandsaws use a continuous loop blade and cut faster with less material waste (thinner kerf). Hacksaw machines use a reciprocating blade and are simpler and less expensive. For occasional cutting of smaller sections, a hacksaw machine is economical. For daily production cutting, especially of larger sections, a bandsaw is faster and more cost-effective per cut.
The metal cutting bandsaw range goes up to 600mm round bar and 425 x 425mm square (SM 600). Pivot type machines handle up to 325mm round. The exact capacity depends on the model. Contact us with your typical section sizes and material type for a recommendation.
On our semi-automatic pivot bandsaws (SMSA 708, SMSA 912 and SMSA 1316), a hydraulic vice clamps and unclamps the job, the blade approaches rapidly to the workpiece height, and the saw frame returns automatically when the cut is complete. A PLC controls the cycle and detects a jammed or broken blade. The operator loads the bar and starts the cycle, then can attend to other work. On the manual pivot models, the operator clamps the job and sets the hydraulic feed, and the saw switches off at the end of the cut.
Blade speeds range from 22 to 77 metres per minute across the range. Lower speeds suit harder materials (stainless steel, alloy steel), and higher speeds suit softer materials (mild steel, aluminium). Models with variable speed let you match the blade speed to the material for best blade life and cut quality.
Blade life depends on the material being cut, blade speed, feed pressure, and coolant use. A well-maintained blade cutting mild steel typically lasts several hundred cuts. Replacement bi-metal bandsaw blades in standard loop lengths are available through our parts supply. We can advise on the correct blade pitch and type for your application.
